SPOTTED: MY FIREPLACE SCREEN IN A VINTAGE MAGAZINE

One of my Mom’s friends, who occasionally reads my blog and knows how much I like all things mid century, gave me a whole stack of vintage home magazines.

In the evenings before bed I like to page through these wonderful old magazines and look at every article add and photo. One particular night, while paging through a New Homes Guide magazine from 1959 and feeling fatigued from working on my master bathroom remodel, I happened upon the ad above for Thermo-Rite fireplace enclosures and did a double take…

… if my bleary eyes don’t deceive me — that has to be our fireplace enclosure! That means it is actually made of shiny brass under all that soot. Wow!

Isn’t it exciting to discover an ad for a product in a vintage magazine — even one as mundane as a fireplace enclosure — that is original to your home?

  1. What? You didn’t take a pic of yourself sitting like that lady beside your fireplace? Lol. I don’t think Leo can cross his legs like that

    • Ha! I did think about doing that last night but I was too tired and it was too dark to get a good picture Nicole. Maybe some other day I will attempt it. I know Leo wouldn’t be able to do that pose… πŸ˜‰

  2. That’s so cool! I love it when I run across a photo that identifies something for me, especially when I’m least expecting it…and even more so if it identifies something I own. Makes you love it a little more, doesn’t it? πŸ™‚
