VINTAGE WESTWOOD TIKI MUGS — IS IT SUMMER YET?

In the hopes that winter weather will someday soon subside — so that I can resurrect the Tiki Lounge porch that has been taken down for winter — I recently acquired this set of vintage Westwood Tiki mugs. Wouldn’t it be awesome to sit outside in the summer sun and sip a Mai Tai from one of these characters?

I have always thought tiki mugs were cool, but I never felt the need to own any until I saw these particular mugs. The faces on these four vintage mugs are just so fun and full of expression that I couldn’t pass them up.

Look how happy this one is — how could you not love a face like that?

This one looks a little insane — perhaps because he has served one too many zombies in his lifetime?

And holy moly — look at the nose on this guy — and his ears! Isn’t there just something wonderful about a tiki mug with ears?

These are for sure the real vintage deal — the bottom of each mug has a stamp that reads, “Westwood Tiki Mug Handcrafted in Japan.” They just don’t make them like this anymore folks…

Since I don’t really have a safe spot to display these guys in my tiki lounge porch — even when it isn’t closed up for the winter — I made a space for them in the built-in shelving in the dining room…

…that way I will see them everyday and remember that someday soon it will be summer again — perfect weather to sit in the Tiki Lounge and sip ice cold fruity drinks.

  1. Kate, before you actually drink anything from these AWESOME mugs, get the glaze checked for lead! They make home kits. I test all of my vintage dishware finds before I use them.

    • Lynne, thanks for suggesting that I check the glasses for lead. I’ll probably just display them, but if I ever do get the urge to use one for a tiki drink, it is probably a good idea to make sure it is safe first!

  2. The faces on those mugs are so cute … and different from the “normal” mugs I’ve seen before. Great find. Brings a smile. 🙂
