Well folks, you guessed it…I got a fancy shmancy new camera (After doing a bunch of research, I decided the Cannon EOS Digital Rebel T3 was the best model for my budget as well as my needs) over the Memorial Day weekend. The more I got serious about making this blog the best it could be, the more I realized my 4 year old point and shoot digital camera was not quite cutting it anymore. Throw in a 10% off coupon and a sale and my new camera was too good to pass up.

The first thing I did with my new camera (after reading the manual of course) was to take it outside and photograph my garden.

I am amazed at the detail this camera can capture…

especially the chives…

…look at that! Photos I always wanted to capture but never could before are now possible!

I especially love being able to capture the light and detail in the foreground while blurring the background…

As much as I loved the new camera right away, Leo wasn’t a fan.

This was his first reaction to the camera:

It makes more noise than the old one and he goes nuts when the flash pops up…

…but then we took it outside (along with lots of treats) and the new camera started to grow on him.

One thing about having a dog with a dark face and dark eyes is that sometimes it is very difficult to capture all of his great expressions. This camera is soooo much better at getting every little fluff on his furry little face.

What a gorgeous dog I have!

I am still getting used to the settings on the camera, but rest assured, the quality of the images on this blog are about to get way better.

I am so excited!

  1. You said I would notice the difference between the old camera and new one. Wow … that was an understatement! I always wanted to get pictures of my flowers like the ones you just took. And Leo …. so much more detail … especially love the last one. The darks and lights really show up. Now I understand you being so excited about the new camera! 🙂

    • Yes it is exciting! now I can’t wait until I have more flowers to take pictures of! I also want to reshoot parts of my house to get better quality images with my new camera!!!! And of course, to shoot the many expressions of Leo…it is SO EXCITING!

  2. Hi Kate-
I just got the Canon T1i and it’s amazing. I’ll never buy another point and shoot camera again. I have a ton of pictures of my dog and flowers. I love it!! Happy clicking 🙂

    • Cannon makes a good camera don’t they? I don’t know about you, but all this fancy camera stuff takes me right back to photo class at YSU…except no film developing (I hated that part!) I agree, I will never by another point and shoot camera again either. Question, was your dog a little nervous around the camera the first time you busted it out? Leo wasn’t sure what to make of mine….but he is getting used to it!

      Happy clicking to you too!

  3. Beautiful photos — there’s just no comparison between a point-and-shoot and a DSLR. (I made the switch back in 2007, and had much the same reaction when I realized how easy it suddenly was to get shots that would’ve been impossible before.) Anyway, congrats on taking the plunge, and I’ll be looking forward to seeing more pics from the fancy new camera.
