THE BIG 3-0
Last week, I hit a milestone. Yup, you guessed it — the big three-O. Just like I’ve done nearly every year on my birthday, I made myself a rainbow chip cake with rainbow chip frosting (not funfetti – rainbow chip is way better) and posed for my annual birthday shot with my cake. (and since Leo is all about food — my dog).
Of course Leo tried to get in on the cake action — sorry Leo, cake is for people. He will get his annual dog birthday cake in December on his birthday.
I had a good day. It was low key — much different from last year, when I celebrated my birthday in Germany but it was perfect for this milestone birthday.
I got several nice cards from friends and family, a few calls and texts from others, a nice sushi dinner out with my husband and a big box arrived from my Mom and Dad, who must have read my article on Retro Renovation about Flamingo Fiesta ware...
…because they sent me a whole place setting plus a few other pieces!
Thanks Mom and Dad! I love my new flamingo Fiesta ware!
Now I have a whole rainbow of colors! Dinner is so much more fun to eat on pretty plates!
I know turning 30 is a big deal, but I don’t feel any different. Age is just a number, right? You are as old as you feel. All I know is that right now, I’m at a good place in my life. I have a wonderful (and adorable) husband, the best dog (and cats) in the whole world, I’m living in my dream house and I’m working at a job that I love. Life is good.

Happy belated birthday!! Love the new Fiesta ware. You have an awesome collection! I will be 30 in March, so how does it feel?
Thanks Katie B! To tell you the truth, I feel the same! It is good to be 30!
Congratulations! And I think I’m going to check out some Flamingo ‘ware for my kitchen too
It’s great to see you on Retro Renovation-keep up the great work!
Thanks Saundra A! I love being part of the amazing site that is Retro Renovation!
Happy birthday, a few days late. In my experience, life just keeps getting better after 30.
Thanks Dana! So far, every year seems to be better than the last — I hope you are right!
I agree with Dana. It DOES keep getting better. Happy birthday!
Yay! That’s what I like to hear Laura!
Hi Kate! I read your blog all the time and love it and I just had to let you know my birthday was last week as well and my parents got me the flamingo fiesta set! What a coincidence, right? It also looks like we have the exact same colors of fiestaware too…we must have the same great taste! Happy belated birthday!
Hi Julie, happy belated birthday to you too! Wow, that is a coincidence. We must have the same great taste
Happy birthday, Kate! For me, there have been things to love about every age. Wishing you a year full of more good things.
Aww thanks Rita!
Happy Birthday, Kate! I think quite a few of your birthday wishes have already come true. May you have many more Hallmark moments!
Thanks GregT — you are right, many of my birthday wishes already have come true. What more could a girl want?
Happy Birthday Miss Kate! I’m with you, I like mellow birthday celebrations, sushi and a homemade cake sound like a perfect way to celebrate.
Thanks Mollie D! I’m a low key person myself — and while last year was fun, I’m not usually a fan of being the center of attention. This year was perfect.
Happy Birthday Kate! I’m a Fiesta connoisseur myself (yes, I had to look up how to spell that word, haha). And I remember being happy about leaving my 20s behind.
Thanks Jeanne! Fiesta ware is awesome! I just can’t get enough! My 20′s were good but nuts! I’m living a more stable life now and I’m loving it.
Looking forward to all the fun my 30s have in store for me!
You are still but a babe, Kate — after all, you’re just 4.33 in Leo years! Happy birthday (and your ARE a babe!)
ohhh thanks Oh Holland! You make me blush!
Happy birthday, Kate! What a lovely color of Fiestaware! My favorite is Persimmon – partly because I love oranges, and partly because it reminds me of my grandmother’s persimmon pudding – yum! But this color is great!
Thanks! Everyone has a favorite color of Fiesta ware! My problem is I can’t decide which color I like best! I love the new Flamingo color, but also love the turquiose and Shamrock colors…that’s why I have a whole rainbow! Too many good colors for me to pick just one!
So glad you had a Happy Birthday, Kate!!! Love the pic with the *drooling* dog at your side. LOL I have the same thing with a CAT!!! Love your Fiesta Ware! The colors you put together are beautiful! That Flamingo is stunning! And so glad you’ve joined Retro Renovation…it’s a PERFECT fit!!!!
Thanks RetroSandie! I did have a great birthday — despite a drooling dog at my side.
Happy Birthday to you! My daughter Tasha Luna is born Sept 15 and our son Grayson Danger is born Oct 3
we recently celebrated Tasha’s birthday at our house. it was the first time we had a party in our 1957 ranch house. i love the open floor plan. we were able to fit around 40 people just fine. mid century ranch homes are made for partying! hope yours was special too.
i collect Fiesta ware too. my favorite is turquoise blue.
take care
Van
Ranch houses are great for parties! We had about 35 people here for our housewarming party a while back and it was great!
Happy birthday Kate! I turned 30 this year too, and so far so good.
Thanks Natalie! Happy almost 30 to you!
Happy Birthday! And congrats on working with Pam on RetroRenovation… we’ll have to follow both your blogs now.
Thanks Joe! Working with Pam is a dream job! I’m still pinching myself to make sure I’m awake.
Happy Birthday!! Hope you had a great day!
Hey, we are birthday twins! Happy birthday!
That’s awesome! I’m glad you had a great birthday!
I did! Thanks Katpolkadot.
