RETRO REMAKE — METAL PHONE STAND
I’ve had two of these little retro phone stands for a few years now. One of them was purchased on Ebay and delivered to my door for about $25 total — the other I found by the curb. Both were gold when I acquired them and have since been spray painted silver (they were both desperately in need of paint). While I was searching around the internet a while back, I discovered that Urban Outfitters is selling a retro remake version!
The stand is being marketed as a mini storage rack, comes in three colors and is $39.
There are a few noticeable differences between my originals and the new remade version, the first being that the new version doesn’t have the springy pen holder!
It took me a while to figure out what the spring was for, but it just makes sense. Put your phone on top, pen in the (springy) holder, message tablet between the shelves and phone book in the large bottom compartment.
My old version is 22 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide and 9.25 inches deep. (Legs are 6 inches tall) The new model lists identical measurements, though the design has been slightly altered to make the legs shorter and the space between the main compartment and the top shelf wider — probably because no one keeps a notepad for phone messages there anymore.
I’m always a fan of getting the real deal if possible, but seeing cool retro things like this telephone stand being remade makes me happy. This was a cool little table back in its day — and for people these days to realize that brings a smile to my face.
Have you found any cool retro remakes lately?
